Frequently Asked Questions

MedalHow do I know if I qualify for a house?

If your application is successfully submitted, then, assuming you have completed the form correctly, you will have satisfied the minimum qualification for the least demanding of the housing providers. Your completed application form will be passed automatically to all house providers when a property becomes vacant in the areas you have requested. It will be they who will decide whether or not you qualify for their particular property. For example, if you have NOT declared a War Pension, or a permanent disability, you would not qualify for a house where this is a mandatory qualification but you may still be eligible for a house that simply requires that you had qualifying service.

How long can I stay in a house if I get offered one?

Most houses are available to rent on a life-time basis under an Assured/Secured Tenancy lease.

What will I have to pay in rent?

You will be advised of the rent as part of the offer that is made to you by the housing provider.

I live with my partner having separated from my wife but have fortnightly access to my 2 children for 48 hours. Can they stay in the house?

As long as you have made your situation clear in your Application, your circumstances will be taken into account by the house provider. In most cases your children would be able to stay with you. You therefore should ensure you complete the application form as accurately as possible.

I sold my house to my daughter but still live there. Can I apply for a house?

Yes, you may still apply. Your circumstances will be taken into account by the house provider. You therefore should ensure you complete the application form as accurately as possible.

I have sent in my application, what happens now?

You will be advised that we have received it and we will contact you when a property may be coming available or at least every six months to verify that you are still waiting for a property.

I own my own house can I apply?

If your house is being repossessed (documentary proof will have to be provided)  we shall look at your situation as being homeless.
